About Our Blog

Mark, Ghost Town Whisperer
Lynn, Ink Slinger

We are historians (professional and amateur), desert rats, and scroungers from way back. We decided to create The Headframe to share the stories we've uncovered during our travels to historic sites, diving into archives, and wandering through ghost town garbage dumps.

We always come across people and places who've been living in history's shadow, and decided that it's time for them to shine. So we will be posting our photos, tales, and wacky facts as we find them.

Why did we name our blog The Headframe? Well, in mining towns the headframe was the tall, sturdy structure built over an underground shaft and used to host ore and men out from the earthly deep to the light of day. With our headframe, we are excavating the hidden stories of the American West. And we don't just live in the past. Today's West is still full of classic scenery, interesting objects, and fascinating folks.

Though we concentrate on this region we call home, our digging sometimes leads us elsewhere. Which is why we do it in the first place.

So stay tuned, enjoy getting your head in the proper frame of mind, and have a little fun in the process. And be sure to let us know what you think.
